Starting a roadside-service business does not always mean starting with a tow truck. You may provide jump-starts, tire changes, lockout assistance or other roadside services from a service vehicle.

Insured ASAP helps new and established operators describe their actual work and compare available insurance. We separate roadside-only operations from businesses that also tow, transport, store or repair vehicles.

Business insurance is different from a roadside membership

A consumer roadside plan pays for specified assistance when that customer needs help. It is not insurance for the company performing the service.

Your business still needs to address vehicle liability, potential damage during the work and employee-injury questions. Joining a dispatch platform does not automatically insure every part of your operation.

Tell us exactly which services you provide

Describe jump-starts, battery installation, tire changes, fuel delivery, lockouts, winching, towing and any repairs. Do not choose roadside-only if the business also transports customer vehicles or performs an activity the insurer has not accepted.

Fuel delivery, battery work, specialized repair services and towing can create different underwriting questions. The type of equipment and service vehicle also matters.

Commercial auto for your service vehicle

A personal-auto policy should not be assumed suitable for a roadside business. The insurer needs to know the vehicle is used for the actual commercial work, together with all drivers, garaging and mileage information.

Commercial auto liability addresses covered injury or property-damage claims caused to others by an insured vehicle. Physical damage for the service vehicle is a separate coverage selection.

Liability while performing roadside work

A mistake during a jump-start or tire change raises a different question from an auto collision on the way to the job. General liability and garage-related coverage or another appropriate form must be checked against the actual services and policy wording.

Customer property in your care can also involve exclusions or a separate coverage need. Do not assume the general-liability limit covers every vehicle-service mistake.

Adding towing or storage later

A new rollback can change the insurance program. Customer-vehicle transit may call for on-hook coverage, and overnight custody may create storage or garagekeepers needs.

Tell us before expanding services. A quote issued for a service van and lockouts should not be treated as approval for a later towing operation.

Workers’ compensation for drivers and helpers

Roadside workers can be injured handling equipment or working near traffic. A small business with one helper still needs to check its state’s employee-coverage rules.

Owner inclusion, part-time work and contractor classification require review. A tax label does not automatically resolve the question. Ohio’s state-fund framework also needs different handling from an ordinary private workers’ compensation quote. (Ohio Legislature)

Working with dispatch networks

We understand insurance requests associated with Agero, HONK, Allstate Roadside, GEICO, AAA and Nation Safe Drivers. Light-service and towing programs may require different coverage or evidence.

Use the actual provider program’s instructions. Consumer roadside benefits or a separate rescue-gig program do not prove the requirements for your business’s contract. Our network directory links to the official resources reviewed.

Get a quote based on your operation

We welcome new ventures in Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Texas, Wisconsin and Minnesota, subject to carrier availability. Tell us your services, vehicles, drivers, location and intended networks.

We compare available carriers and check eligible savings. You do not need to contact multiple insurers yourself, and we do not publish a firm price before reviewing the business.
