What Insured ASAP Customers Paid for Car Insurance in Illinois

Insured ASAP analyzed more than 3,600 recently sold Illinois personal auto policies, including substantial samples of liability-only and full coverage. The review covered policies sold from January through August 2026.

Coverage Middle monthly price Half of prices fell between
Liability only $75 $62–$101 per month
Full coverage $193 $150–$254 per month

We use the middle price because a few unusually high or low prices can make a simple average misleading. Liability-only and full-coverage policies can have different limits, deductibles and optional coverage, so these results are general price references rather than prices for one identical policy.

Why This Illinois Car Insurance Study Is Different

Many national cost studies use an imaginary driver or a database of online quotes. This study uses prices from policies handled by a working independent Illinois insurance agency. It answers a practical question: What prices appeared in a recent review of Illinois policies sold through Insured ASAP?

The results provide a real-world reference, but they do not promise what every Illinois driver will pay. A current personalized quote is still required to determine an individual price.

Why Can Car Insurance Cost More in Chicago?

Car insurance may cost more in Chicago than in less populated areas because insurers use past claims and other approved rating information for the location where a vehicle is kept. The Illinois Department of Insurance explains that heavily populated areas typically have more traffic, theft and vandalism, which can result in higher prices for city drivers. If an insurer’s data shows that claims in a Chicago ZIP code happen more frequently or cost more to resolve, drivers in that area may be priced as a higher risk. Location is only one factor; age, driving history, vehicle, coverage choices and other information can also change the final price.

How to Find the Cheapest Car Insurance in Chicago

The cheapest car insurance in Chicago will not be the same for every driver. Compare quotes using the same drivers, vehicle, address, limits and deductibles so the prices measure the same protection. Choosing less coverage solely to lower the monthly price can leave important risks unprotected. Insured ASAP can compare available Chicago auto insurance options using your actual information.

What Does Full-Coverage Car Insurance Mean in Illinois?

“Full coverage” is an informal term. It generally means a policy that combines liability insurance with collision and comprehensive coverage for the insured vehicle.

  • Liability coverage can pay for bodily injury or property damage you cause to someone else, subject to the policy’s terms and limits.
  • Collision coverage can pay for covered damage to your vehicle from a collision, less your deductible.
  • Comprehensive coverage can pay for covered non-collision losses such as theft, fire, hail or vandalism, less your deductible.

Illinois does not require collision or comprehensive coverage by law. A lender or leasing company may require both while you finance or lease a vehicle. Higher limits, lower deductibles and optional coverage can increase the price.

Illinois Minimum Car Insurance Requirements

Illinois drivers generally must carry at least:

  • $25,000 bodily injury liability per person
  • $50,000 bodily injury liability per accident
  • $20,000 property damage liability per accident
  • $25,000/$50,000 uninsured motorist bodily injury coverage

When you buy higher uninsured-motorist limits, Illinois also requires underinsured-motorist coverage. State minimum limits are the legal starting point, but they may not cover the full cost of a serious accident.

What Affects the Cost of Car Insurance in Illinois?

No single number can predict what every Illinois or Chicago driver will pay. Insurance prices may be affected by:

  • driving history, including tickets and accidents;
  • age and driving experience;
  • the ZIP code where the vehicle is kept;
  • the vehicle’s value, repair cost and theft risk;
  • coverage limits and deductibles;
  • prior insurance and household drivers; and
  • available discounts.

How Insured ASAP Calculated the Illinois Prices

The statewide study compared prices from more than 3,600 recently sold Illinois personal auto policies. Customer names and identifying information are not published.

To compare policies with different lengths, each policy price was converted to a monthly amount:

Monthly price used in the study = total policy price ÷ number of months in the policy

For example, a $600 price for a six-month policy becomes $100 per month.

The study reports the middle price, meaning half of the prices were lower and half were higher. This prevents a small number of unusually expensive policies from making the typical price appear higher than it was.

Illinois study period: January through August 2026

Illinois study size: More than 3,600 recently sold personal auto policies

Results shown: Middle monthly price and the range containing the middle half of prices

These figures describe the policies in this study. They are estimates for comparison—not statewide averages, quotes or guarantees. Only a current personalized quote can determine what a particular driver may pay.

How to Compare Illinois Car Insurance Quotes

For a useful comparison, ask each agency to quote the same:

  • drivers and household information;
  • vehicles and the address where each vehicle is usually kept;
  • liability limits;
  • comprehensive and collision deductibles;
  • optional coverages; and
  • policy length.

As an independent Illinois insurance agency, Insured ASAP can compare available options using the information that actually determines your rate.
